NEW DELHI: Makes you wonder what’s brewing. Apparently Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s ‘endorsement’ of him as a possible PM, is making Home Minister Rajnath Singh very uncomfortable.
In an informal chat with journalists recently about a ‘Modi-less government’ post 2019, Rahul indicated that Rajnath would be a favourite to become the prime minister, if his party fails to get majority on its own.
Rajnath is sweating the (not-so-small) stuff; He fears such open support from the Opposition could thwart his chances of ever making it to Raisina Hill.
His aides are scrambling to figure out how and why Rajnath’s name made it to the media. But it looks like Rahul’s not done having fun at Rajnath’s expense.
A day after PM Modi rubbished Nehru’s legacy in the Lok Sabha, Rahul quoted Singh’s 2015 speech in praise of Nehru and thanked him for it.
